Induction into the Heroes Hall of Fame is Tenet’s highest honor for employees. Inductees are nominated by their hospital’s leadership and chosen based upon the individual’s dedication to patients, colleagues and their community.

At MacNeal, Ms. Ramirez has led the hospital’s domestic violence committee and forged partnerships with external organizations like the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network to educate patients and caregivers about domestic violence. Ms. Ramirez has also worked to educate hospital staff to better identify patients who are victims of domestic violence and has worked to connect these individuals with social services and police protection upon discharge.

“Miriam’s compassion and dedication is an inspiration to everyone at MacNeal,” said M.E. Cleary, CEO of MacNeal Hospital, in an emailed news release. “Miriam is so tireless. She provides care to people who come to our emergency room every day, she mentors students, she educates the community about domestic violence and preventable injuries, she advocates for the needs of patients and especially for many of the most vulnerable who come to us for care. Miriam is passionate and gives so much to others, but still she talks about how much more needs to be done.”
