The rally, organized by the Service Employees International Union, was over wages and recent layoffs in the system, according to a Pittsburgh Post Gazette report. The SEIU is seeking to organize some UPMC employees.
Earlier on Wednesday, six other workers were cited for trespassing during a sit-in at UPMC’s Aiken Medical Building. They were protesting UPMC’s decision to cancel a contract with a unionized cleaning firm at the building, according to the report.
UPMC officials had no comment on the activities, according to an Associated Press report on CBS Pittsburgh.
