The following hospital-union events have been reported by Becker's since Dec. 15, including strikes, unionization votes and contract approvals.

Members of the Hawaii Nurses Association are set to begin a seven-day strike Jan. 21 at Honolulu-based Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.

Intermountain Health, a 33-hospital system based in Salt Lake City, has changed its loan repayment processes for caregivers in a region that includes Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Kansas and Wyoming.

Physicians at Salem (Mass.) Hospital, a Mass General Brigham facility, seek to form a union with Council 93 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Nurses represented by National Nurses United held a two-day strike at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis last month, The Labor Tribune reported Jan. 8. 

Nurses and other workers at hospitals and health systems have secured large raises and other contract asks recently amid negotiations with unions. Below is a breakdown of the raises, reported by Becker's since Nov. 1. 

Nurse residents and fellows at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (Texas)  voted Jan. 3 to unionize and join the National Nurses Organizing Committee, an affiliate of National Nurses United.

In 2023, when the Supreme Court handed down its ruling striking down affirmative action in university admissions, some industry leaders expressed concern that the decision could hinder efforts to create a more diverse healthcare workforce. 

Patient care associates and psychiatric care technicians at the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center in Columbus have voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. 

Nurses at Montefiore Mount Vernon (N.Y.) and Montefiore New Rochelle (N.Y.) hospitals have approved new three-year labor contracts.
