It is the first union established at Barrett Hospital & HealthCare, according to the MNA.

The National Labor Relations Board issued a tally of ballots April 15, with a vote of 18-8 in favor of unionization.

“The nurses at Barrett are excited to have a seat at the table through our union,” one registered nurse said in an April 20 news release. “This is all about coming together as a team to advocate for our profession and keep RNs here in Dillon.”

The National Labor Relations Board has not yet certified the election results.

However, if the board certifies them, the hospital will respect this decision, according to Barrett.

“Throughout this process, we have not wavered in our commitment to our patients and to the community we serve,” the hospital said in an April 20 news release. “Residents and community members will continue to receive the high-quality care they have come to expect from Barrett Hospital & HealthCare. Throughout its 100-year history, Barrett Hospital is committed to integrity, compassion, adaptability, respect and excellence. Our commitment to these values will not change.”

The MNA has more than 3,000 members.
