Members of the Michigan Nurses Association are set to begin a three-day strike July 3 at MyMichigan Medical Center Alma, part of Midland-based MyMichigan Health.
The union represents 178 nurses at the hospital, according to an MNA news release. Members authorized a strike in May following the union’s 16th bargaining session with management.
In a statement shared with Becker’s, MyMichigan Health said it has proposed significant wage enhancements, including step increases, placement adjustments and step progression. The union contends the final offer would result in no wage change for nearly 1 in 4 nurses in the first year of the contract.
“While we are disappointed the union has chosen to move forward with a strike, we remain committed to reaching an agreement and will continue negotiations with the assistance of a federal mediator,” MyMichigan Health said. “We believe the proposal MyMichigan has presented continues to be fair and reasonable and is in recognition of the good and hard work of the nurses in Alma.”
