According to the post, women manage their femininity in order to be considered adherent to an unspoken code of the non-gendered worker.

Emily Jones, a researcher from the University of Kansas discovered that the majority of women in academic medicine experienced isolation and exclusion, sexual harassment and/or pressures to perform the second shift. These findings came after a quantitative project Jones conducted at a large Midwestern medical center with 26 senior women.

After speaking with the women, Jones found the women’s strategies to manage their femininity included appearing easy-going and minding the thin line between too feminine and too masculine.
