Kaiser Permanente employees represented by unions within the Alliance of Health Care Unions have ratified 52 collective bargaining agreements across the Oakland, Calif.-based organization’s markets.
The agreements cover more than 61,000 employees represented by the Alliance of Health Care Unions, a federation of about two dozen local unions, according to an April 16 statement from Kaiser Permanente.
The agreements include a wage offer first presented in early October 2025, providing a 21.5% wage increase over four years, according to Kaiser Permanente. With step increases and other factors included, employees will see average wage growth of about 30% over the life of the contracts.
“The agreements reflect this careful balance — delivering meaningful improvements in pay, benefits and career development that align with the priorities union-represented employees shared with us, while also helping to safeguard access to affordable care for our members and keeping Kaiser Permanente a best place to work in healthcare,” the system said.
The contracts follow nearly 11 months of negotiations, which included strikes. During the process, Kaiser Permanente shifted some bargaining from the national level to local tables to help reach agreements.
A spokesperson for the alliance shared the following statement with Becker’s: “These were very difficult negotiations which resulted in outstanding contracts. We are proud of the significant gains Alliance unions made in pay, benefits, and other areas including staffing provisions and groundbreaking collaboration on artificial intelligence. With the many challenges facing the health care industry today, we look forward to rebuilding our partnership to benefit the patients and members we serve.”
