The workers are members of labor union 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. They will vote today on a three-day strike if hospital officials do not agree to a wage increase of up to 40 percent for about 20 employees, according to the report.
Most workers would get more modest raises, however. The median increase for all workers over the life of the union’s four-year proposal would be 18 percent.
The hospital has said it is trying to reach a settlement that’s fair to everyone and reflects financial responsibility on the part of Johns Hopkins, according to the report. It has also said it will not negotiate through the media.
