Workers voted 319-110 in favor of affiliation with the AFT, the union said. Approximately 900 employees were eligible to vote.
Sandi Rogers, who works in patient team support, said in the release: “I’m so happy that we have a voice in AFT! We can look to the future and help make our hospital a better place to work now that we have the tools, time and resources to ensure quality care at the hospital.”
PSMC Interim CEO Wade Hunt said the election results have not yet been certified by the National Labor Relations Board. However, “once the election is certified, consistent with our core values and labor laws, we will honor our caregivers’ voice and continue our good faith bargaining relationship with the union.”
AFT now represents approximately 1,200 caregivers at PSMC (900 service workers and 300 tech workers). The Washington State Nurses Association represents hospital nurses.
