Hospitals and unions: 5 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker’s Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events in August.

1. Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health reached a tentative contract agreement with its nurses.

2. Hundreds of nurses from Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based Vassar Brothers Medical Center held a protest Aug. 21 over concerns about staffing ratios.

3. More than 1,300 registered nurses from Dignity Health hospitals in Southern California plan to strike for 10 days beginning Aug. 30, unless a contract agreement is reached.

4. The operator of Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence, R.I., reached a deal with employees that includes a provision for employee panic buttons.

5. Kaiser Permanente workers in California voted to empower their bargaining team to call a nationwide strike that would affect more than 80,000 employees at Kaiser facilities.
