The workers, who are represented by 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East, were protesting on behalf of unionized nurses and aides, technical and laboratory staff, and dietary and environmental services workers. They are currently negotiating a new contract agreement and claim staffing levels at the hospital are inadequate, according to the report.
Gary Tucker, president and CEO of the hospital, which is affiliated with Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health, told The Buffalo News Mount St. Mary’s has made an offer that “will allow us to continue offering the benefits our current associates have relied on for many years, while putting us on an equal playing field with other providers in the community.”
