The results came from data compiled by WorkForce West Virginia. The list contained businesses with single and multiple locations and ranked companies according to the number of employees. The data came from each company’s quarterly contribution report for the first fiscal quarter of their 2016 fiscal year.
The report did not disclose the number of employees at each company to maintain employer confidentiality.
Here is the list for the 10 largest private employers in the state.

2. Wal-Mart
3. Charleston (W.Va) Area Medical Center
4. Kroger
5. Mylan Pharmaceuticals
6. Lowe’s Home Centers
7. Huntington, W.Va.-based St. Mary’s Medical Center
8. Cabell Huntington (W.Va.) Hospital
9. Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital
10. Res-Care
