Wheeling Hospital calls off acquisition of West Virginia hospital

Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital has called off a deal to acquire Sistersville (W.Va.) General Hospital, according to The Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

Wheeling Hospital decided not to pursue the transaction after assessing the healthcare market in the region and how the acquisition would limit expansion of clinical programs at Wheeling Hospital, according to an internal memo from Wheeling Hospital CEO Doug Harrison obtained by the News and Sentinel

"Wheeling Hospital has made the difficult decision to not pursue further discussions with the leadership of Sistersville General Hospital about acquiring the hospital," Mr. Harrison said. "Although not an easy choice by any means, we appreciated the opportunity to explore such an arrangement. As such, Sistersville General Hospital is now able to pursue discussions with other health systems or hospitals about a possible acquisition or partnership."

Sistersville General Hospital CEO Brandon Chadock said the hospital has already entered discussions with other potential partners, according to the report.
