Marietta, Ga.-based Wellstar Health System has finalized an agreement to acquire Mountain Lakes Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Clayton, Ga.
Four things to know, per a June 5 news release:
1. Wellstar is an 11-hospital system with more than 35,000 team members and more than 400 care locations. The acquisition expands its footprint in northeast Georgia and will increase its hospital portfolio to 12 facilities upon closing.
2. Leaders at both organizations said the transaction will strengthen long-term healthcare access in northeast Georgia. Wellstar said the deal will connect patients to broader specialty, technology and digital care resources, while Mountain Lakes leaders said it will support the hospital’s continued growth while preserving its commitment to the local community.
3. Mountain Lakes Medical Center serves Rabun County and surrounding northeast Georgia communities. Wellstar said it intends to retain current team members and take a phased approach to integration that prioritizes continuity for patients, clinicians and staff.
4. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close Aug. 1, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
