Walgreens to close 300 Boots stores in UK

Walgreens wants to close 300 Boots retail stores in the UK, about 14 percent of its portfolio there, according to a June 27 BBC News report.

The closures should happen over the next year, the report said.

Walgreens has made attempts to sell the business entirely. The company put Boots on the block in January 2022 but abandoned the potential sale in June of that year because of market instability.

Walgreens Boots Alliance cut 10 percent of its corporate workforce in May as part of an initiative to “drive sustainable cost savings to help fuel investments for future growth,” according to CEO Rosalind Brewer.
