The university would be able to go after various joint ventures, such as hospital partnerships, if the proposed nonprofit corporation becomes a reality, according to the report.

One potential venture is joining Vantage Healthcare of Ohio, an alliance of eight area hospitals — including Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio and Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio. David Morlock, executive vice president of finance and administration and CEO of the University of Toledo Medical Center, told The Blade that the university has not been invited and has not officially petitioned to join Vantage, but a separate entity would be required if the university did want to pursue such a joint venture.

A more detailed plan for the proposed University of Toledo Health is expected to go before the board of trustees’ clinical affairs committee and the full board at a later time.
