Here are three things to know about the agreement.
1. With the addition of J. Paul Jones Hospital, UAB Health System now maintains management contracts with three rural hospitals statewide.
2. The board of J. Paul Jones Hospital announced last August the 30-bed facility would be forced to shutter due to declining reimbursements and a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
3. Under the management agreement, which the organizations announced last November, UAB Medicine will provide managerial services to the hospital, and assist with clinical resources and physician recruiting and staffing.
