Trinity Health to acquire Saint Francis Care

Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Saint Francis Care, a three-hospital system based in Hartford, Conn.

Under the agreement, a nonprofit regional health system will be created that includes Saint Francis Care and  Sisters of Providence Health System in Springfield, Mass., which is already a member of Trinity Health. President and CEO of Saint Francis Care Christopher Dadlez will lead the new system.

The agreement, which still must receive regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed by late 2015. Once the agreement is finalized, Trinity Health will invest at least $275 in Saint Francis Care over the first five years of the agreement.

"Our focus on building a people-centered health system fits very well with Saint Francis Care's strategy, capabilities and commitment to their communities," said Richard J. Gilfillan, MD, president and CEO of Trinity Health. "We look forward to Saint Francis Care joining Trinity Health and working together to better serve people across the region."
