Community Health Systems sold another hospital, while UConn Health is planning to acquire a children’s psychiatric facility. Here are three hospital M&A updates that Becker’s reported during the week of March 30:
1. Farmington, Conn.-based UConn Health shared plans to integrate Middletown, Conn.-based Solnit Hospital, a children’s and adolescent psychiatric facility, into a satellite location of its UConn John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington.
Solnit Hospital is a state-administered psychiatric facility for children ages 13 to 17. It offers care to children and adolescents with “severe mental illness and related behavioral and emotional problems who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting,” according to the state’s website.
2. Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health signed an agreement to acquire eight acute care hospitals from Louisville, Ky.-based ScionHealth.
Three of the hospitals are located in Texas. The others are located in Mississippi, Tennessee, West Virginia, Idaho and Wisconsin. All facilities will retain their current employees and providers and will maintain all existing services.
3. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems on April 1 sold Crestwood Medical Center — a 180-bed hospital in Huntsville, Ala. — to Huntsville Hospital Health System for $459 million.
The deal includes all of the assets tied to the 180-bed hospital, including its associated outpatient centers, practices and a freestanding emergency department in Harvest, Ala. There are no planned changes to services or operations. The transaction is one of multiple divestitures CHS has completed or has lined up as the for-profit health system reshapes its portfolio, improves its margins and trims its debt.
