From an Arkansas system reaching an agreement to add its 13th hospital to Prospect Medical Holdings offloading its final Crozer Health hospital, here are four hospital M&A moves that Becker’s reported during the week of March 9:
1. The Tallahassee City Commission approved the transfer of city-owned Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial HealthCare assets to Florida State University, also in Tallahassee, March 11, clearing the path for the development of an integrated academic health center.
FSU will assume ownership of the hospital property under the agreement while TMH will operate the facility under a long-term lease, maintaining responsibility for hospital employees, operations and patient care. TMH’s longstanding charity-care commitments will continue through city deed restrictions, and FSU will be required to maintain the property as a hospital in perpetuity.
2. Little Rock, Ark.-based Baptist Health reached a definitive agreement to acquire South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado and add the facility to its system June 14, pending regulatory approvals.
The 151-bed hospital will be renamed Baptist Health Medical Center–El Dorado after the transaction closes.
3. Shuttered Springfield (Pa.) Hospital was purchased by KQT Aikens Partners for $1 million March 11, making it the last of Upland, Pa.-based Crozer Health’s four facilities to be sold.
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, Crozer Health’s parent company, also sold its Ridley Park, Pa.-based shuttered Taylor Hospital to KQT Aikens Partners for $1 million in September 2025. Prospect sought Chapter 11 protection in January 2025. It closed Springfield Hospital in 2022 and Taylor Hospital in April 2025. Todd Strine, CFO and owner of KQT Aikens Partners, said the company’s goal is to bring both Springfield and Taylor hospitals “back to life.”
4. Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore Hospital signed a letter of intent with the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., to potentially take over its services amid ongoing financial challenges.
Greenwood Leflore sought state legislative approval to seek Chapter 9 protection in early February amid ongoing negotiations with the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. It also narrowly avoided closure in December 2025.
