The Nueces County Commissioners Court needs to give its final approval on Dec. 12. The sale would include the hospital and its surrounding land, as well as the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office. However, the hospital’s Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center would be excluded.
The report did not list appraisals for the hospital, but its surrounding land is being appraised at $4 million. While the board voted to seek bids for the hospital, the Ed Rachal Foundation, also in Corpus Christi, has surfaced as a potential buyer.
Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial and the Nueces County Hospital District agreed in 2014 to demolish the hospital’s main building in late 2020, according to the Caller Times. The hospital will continue to operate behavioral health services until a sale is finalized. The hospital also has a 10-bed emergency department, but often transfers patients to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
