Supporters Urge Approval of Landmark Merger

In a recent news conference, Woonsocket, R.I., Mayor Leo Fontaine, U.S. Rep David Cicilline and other supporters urged state regulators to approve the proposed merger between Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket and Boston-based Steward Health Care Systems, according to a Boston Globe report.

Many Woonsocket residents believe the financially troubled Landmark is integral to the community and find the proposed merger necessary for the hospital to remain open, according to the report.

Approval of the deal has been an arduous process due to an incomplete application and missed deadlines.
