TeamHealth Hospital Medicine will be exclusively managing around-the-clock care for Sunrise Hospital patients needing to be admitted from the emergency department.
Hospital Medicine is delivered by “hospitalists” who are physicians providing care only to hospitalized patients. Sunrise Hospital will be using TeamHealth hospitalists to care for patients who either do not have a regular primary care physician or when physicians’ opt to have a hospitalist provide care for their inpatients. Currently, a majority of Sunrise Hospital’s ER patients do not have an active primary care physician at the time they are admitted.

The contract with TeamHealth takes effect April 1, 2016 and covers managing the hospital’s general medicine “on call” schedule for one of the busiest emergency departments in the Valley. Consistent inpatient physician coverage helps to decrease the amount of time a patient spends in the hospital and curtails readmission, in addition to improving patient satisfaction.
