Some quality and patient satisfaction indicators show Steward hospitals perform better than its competitors. Other indicators show they may be lagging behind, even though they are performing above national averages, according to the news report. The health system has chosen this approach to show its patients that its hospitals are “working at things,” said Justine Carr, MD, chief medical officer at Steward.
“If we pick and choose areas where we look good, people would say we’re not being up front and then the whole [business model] falls apart,” said Steward Spokesman Christopher Murphy.
