The board’s approval moves the organizations one step closer to finalizing their deal. With the board’s approval, the two entities are permitted to create a new nonprofit parent corporation — Memorial Regional Health Services, Inc. The new organization’s board will contain an equal number of members from each entity.

Although there are still additional regulatory hurdles to pass, a spokeswoman for Memorial Group told the Belleville News-Democrat that the agreement is expected to be finalized later this summer.
