St. John's Episcopal Hospital forms partnership with Beacon Health Partners

Rockville, Centre, N.Y.-based Catholic Health Services of Long Island and St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, N.Y., have acquired a 50 percent stake in  Westbury, N.Y.-based Beacon Health Partners — an independent physician network.

Beacon comprises more than 400 independent physicians and has entered into commercial contracts as an accountable care organization. Beacon also participates in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.

"This exciting fifty-fifty partnership between independent physicians and hospitals provides us with the necessary resources to build on our early successes and take our results to the next level," said Simon Prince, MD, president and CEO of Beacon.

Under the agreement, physicians from the CHS physician-hospital organization will be added to Beacon's ACO.

"This partnership will be patient centered, delivering care that focuses on prevention, improves quality and enhances access," said Alan D. Guerci, CHS president and CEO.

Under the agreement, CHS and St. John's Episcopal will make up 50 percent of the members of Beacon's board of directors; the other half will be comprised of independent physicians. Dr. Prince will remain the chairman of the board.
