The healthcare organizations did not specify why they had called off partnership negotiations, according to the report. Southcoast and the hospital announced plans in February to enter into exclusive talks.

South County is Rhode Island’s only remaining independent nonprofit hospital, serving patients in southern Rhode Island. Southcoast is a nonprofit system that includes three Massachusetts hospitals: Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
