Under the agreement, South Shore would become part of Partners, but keep its name and remain an independently licensed, non-profit healthcare provider. South Shore would also maintain its own board of directors, medical staff, community connections and fundraising activities, according to the report. The hospitals began discussing the deal in April.
The agreement builds upon a long-standing relationship between South Shore Hospital and Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a founding member of Partners HealthCare.
