The affiliation is part of SVHC’s strategic plan that the board recently approved, and is designed to expand the network of physicians and services available to patients. Potential benefits also include Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s access to the educational opportunities and intellectual resources of Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s academic medical center and the introduction of new treatments and research.

SVHC chose Dartmouth-Hitchcock for its focus on physician relationships, experience in partnering with organizations, reputation for quality care, proactive stance towards healthcare reform and cultural alignment with SVHC. SVHC will continue its relationships with other hospitals, including Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center.

The discussions regarding the partnership should be complete by the fall, according to the release.
