Somerset (Pa.) Hospital will officially become UPMC Somerset Feb. 1, seven months after the potential merger was announced, according to The Tribune-Democrat.

After considering multiple affiliation offers, Somerset voted to enter into exclusive talks with UPMC in June.

“Our board was not only looking for a health care system that could benefit our hospital. We also were searching for an engaged community partner,” said Krista Mathias, chairwoman of Somerset. “UPMC is well known for strengthening not only the hospitals with which it affiliates, but also the communities those hospitals serve.”
