Although Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D., has not agreed to merge with Sanford Health, based in Fargo, N.D., and Sioux Falls, S.D., officials have confirmed the two systems are discussing strategies to work together more closely, according to a Great Plains Examiner report.

In a statement, Craig Lambrecht, CEO of MedCenter One, said the health system is “financially strong” and is defining its best strategic options to continue in the era of healthcare reform.

A Sanford Health spokesperson said negotiations “were in a preliminary stage,” according to the report, and that both systems are seeking new ways to collaborate.
