Sanford Health acquires stake in Costa Rica health network

In a move to expand its international presence, Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health has acquired a minority equity stake in a health system in Costa Rica.

Sanford has acquired stake in Hospital Metropolitano, which operates two hospitals, seven satellite facilities, 23 corporate medicine clinics, 16 laboratories, three dental clinics and a series of pharmacies in Costa Rica. 

With the new partnership, Sanford hopes to open more facilities, expand services and provide more training for medical staff in Costa Rica.

Sanford’s international healthcare business, Sanford World Clinic, now has more than 80 locations in nine countries.
