Rush University Medical Center Completes Acquisition of Oak Park Hospital

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago has completed its acquisition of Rush Oak Park (Ill.) Hospital, completing a deal 15 years in the making.

RUMC and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare in Glendale, Wis., have completed the closing for the change of corporate members at the hospital, and the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Planning and Review Board and the Vatican have approved the transaction, according to a news release.

With the change of ownership, Rush Oak Park will no longer operate as a Catholic hospital. Instead, it will be a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization like RUMC.

RUMC originally took control of the hospital's operations in 1993, retaining Catholic care policies restricting some reproductive services and drugs. The two organizations signed a letter of intent to transfer ownership of Rush Oak Park to RUMC in March for $21 million.
