Regulators approve OSF takeover of shuttered Illinois hospital

Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board for a certificate of application to take over shuttered St. Margaret’s Heath-Peru (Ill.).

The Peru facility closed earlier this year, citing financial difficulties and a ransomware attack. In the future, the St. Margaret's location will operate as a second campus of Ottawa, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, according to a July 27 news release.

The facility will reopen with emergency care and other inpatient services following the completion of the sale of assets from St. Margaret's to OSF and completing the regulatory approval process.

So far, OSF has hired more than 320 former employees of St. Margaret's and more than 50 providers.

"Our goal is to preserve and sustain access to high quality, local health care for the residents of the Illinois Valley," August Querciagrossa, CEO of Western Region OSF HealthCare, said in the news release.
