Landmark Medical Center, Blue Cross of Rhode Island Reach Contract Agreement

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., have reached a memorandum of understanding to extend their insurance contract, according to a Providence Business News report.

The hospital’s and payor’s previous contract expired July 16. This agreement will renew that contract until 90 days after Boston-based Steward Health Care completes its acquisition of Landmark, or until Dec. 31 — whichever date arrives first.

BCBS spokesperson Kim Reingold said the agreement was one with Landmark, not Steward, according to the report.

Along with the memorandum of understanding, Landmark Special Master Jonathon Savage agreed to drop his suit against BCBS, which claimed the payor starved Landmark with unjustly inadequate reimbursements.
