Partnership Talks Extended Between Salinas Valley Memorial, Natividad

Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, both public-owned hospitals located in Salinas, Calif., have extended negotiations to affiliate through January, according to a Californian report.

The 172-bed Natividad Medical Center and 269-bed Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, which are only four miles apart, initiated partnership discussions in August. At the time, hospital officials said talks were focused on how the two organizations could improve population health and healthcare delivery in the region.

According to the Californian, Natividad and Salinas Valley Memorial executives have created and signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding. However, they will not disclose terms of any potential definitive agreement nor the substance of negotiations. The organizations are looking at a range of "strategic relationships." While a merger is not being discussed, it hasn't been excluded as a possibility, according to the report.
