SSM Health, a nonprofit system based in St. Louis, has signed letters of intent to sell hospitals in Jefferson City, Maryville and Mexico, Mo.

Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System and its clinical affiliate St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y., are in talks for St. John's to formally join Montefiore.

Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital and New Orleans-based University Healthcare System, a partnership between Tulane University in New Orleans and Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, have ended partnership negotiations, according to The Times-Picayune.

Activist investor Carl Icahn will stop soliciting votes from Cigna shareholders against the insurer's $54 billion takeover of Express Scripts, the billionaire investor said in an Aug. 13 statement.
