Orlando (Fla.) Health has acquired Anniston, Ala.-based RMC Health System’s 375-bed hospital, outpatient facilities and specialty practices.

The system joined Orlando Health’s Baptist Health system as Baptist Health Calhoun Hospital, according to an Oct. 1 news release shared with Becker’s.

Orlando Health shared plans to acquire the system in early April.

Baptist Health Calhoun Hospital comprises nearly 2,000 employees and 200 physicians across a range of specialties. Orlando Health said it will invest “significant resources” over the next five years to enhance Baptist Health Calhoun Hospital’s facilities, equipment and technology.

Orlando Health in 2024 acquired Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare’s 70% ownership stake in Birmingham, Ala.-based Brookwood Baptist Health, a five-hospital system with more than 1,700 licensed beds, in October 2024 for around $910 million. Orlando Health manages daily operations of the system in partnership with Baptist Health.

“We’re thrilled to officially welcome Baptist Health Calhoun Hospital to the Baptist Health family,” Thibaut van Marcke, senior vice president of Orlando Health and president of Baptist Health, said in the release. “This partnership brings together the strength and resources of two organizations with a shared commitment to serving patients and communities. Together, we have an opportunity to expand access to care, enhance services and invest in the future of healthcare in Calhoun County and throughout the region.”

Orlando Health is a nonprofit, integrated academic health system. It has $15 billion of assets under management and serves Alabama, Florida and Puerto Rico through a network of medical centers and institutes, community and specialty hospitals, physician practices, urgent care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health and long-term and behavioral healthcare services.
