The 162-bed community hospital has sent out seven requests for proposal to potential partners whose identities have not been disclosed, according to the report. Pressures such as sequestration cuts, North Carolina’s decision not to expand its Medicaid program, the cost of maintaining biomedical equipment and increasing bad debt in conjunction with the rise of high-deductible health plans are financially straining the hospital, according to the report.
The hospital is looking to create a formal alliance with another organization, according to the report. However, Onslow Memorial CEO Ed Piper told the News the hospital is “not looking to be sold.”
