Novant expands brand presence in NC through shared services agreement: 5 things to know

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health has signed an agreement to expand shared services to a hospital in eastern North Carolina, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.

Here are five things to know about the agreement.

1. The agreement is between Novant and Morehead City, N.C.-based Carteret Health Care, which operates a hospital in Morehead City.

2. It is part of Novant's shared services initiative. Launched in 2012, the health system's shared services division typically helps smaller hospitals with supply chain, clinical engineering and information technology, according to the report. The division also offers "strategies to improve clinical performance and [help] identifying growth opportunities," the report notes. The hospitals typically remain independent.

3. Dick Brvenik, president and CEO of Carteret, told the Winston-Salem Journal the agreement "will continue to help Carteret Health Care cut costs by combining efforts with a larger system that has scale and greater purchasing power."

4. The agreement comes the same month Novant announced it would close Franklin Medical Center in Louisbug, N.C. The hospital closed last week.

5. Aside from Carteret, Novant's shared services agreements also include Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, N.C., Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., and University Health Care System in Augusta, Ga., according to the report.
