Mather Hospital signed a letter of intent to join Northwell in July, the first hospital to join the system since Riverhead, N.Y.-based Peconic Bay Medical Center in 2016.

Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell, said the system will take time to evaluate the hospital before instituting any changes. However, Mr. Dowling added he does not anticipate any layoffs.

“We don’t want to disrupt something that’s going well,” Mr. Dowling said, according to Newsday. “We will spend 12 months identifying what our priorities should be.”
