The resolution passed in a 5-1 vote. It is not binding because NHRMC is a public, county hospital, a spokesperson for the hospital told Becker’s. The decision was supported by several council members and backed by requests from the city to look into alternatives so the hospital could maintain its autonomy.
Commissioners of the hospital first began considering a sale in July as the hospital’s ability to continue operating independently grew unclear. At the time, NHRMC President and CEO John Gizdic said the hospital was not financially struggling. However, County Manager Chris Coudriet told the Port City Daily “uncertainty in the healthcare industry” is putting more pressure on the hospital.
