The hospitals said caring for the growing number of people covered under Medicare and Medicaid “will be a big challenge,” the report said.
In 2009, Elkhart General’s unreimbursed Medicare expenses were $29.2 million while the unreimbursed Medicaid expenses were $18.7 million.
According to the report, the main goals of a potential affiliation would be the joint purchasing of electronic health record systems and bulk medical equipment purchases. There is no timetable for completing the partnership.
