Rep. Dan Maffei (D-DeWitt) announced the federal government will provide $900,000 in funds for the project — in addition to the $2.1 million already provided by the state and $350,000 in local corporate contributions. According to Orin McMurray, president of Health Advancement Collaborative, the network will help eliminate the expense of duplicate medical tests and reduce overall healthcare spending.
The network will connect Community General, Crouse, St. Joseph’s and Upstate University hospitals by September, and five large physician practices and the Laboratory Alliance of CNY will join them by February. Providers must have patient consent to exchange patient health information except in emergency circumstances.
