New Indiana law requires state oversight of hospital mergers

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed into law March 10 a bill that requires the Indiana State Department of Health to actively supervise hospital mergers.

The law allows the department to work with a nonprofit organization or a postsecondary education institution to study the effect of the merger on the community.

Additionally, it requires the holders of a certificate to pay for the charges incurred by the state department.
