Illinois’ DuPage Medical Group and Edward Hospital in Naperville, Ill., have formed Illinois Health Partners, a joint venture that will manage the care of 100,000 HMO patients in Chicago’s western and southwestern suburbs, according to a joint news release.

DMG and Edward will remain independent, but the joint venture will unite more than 300 DMG physicians with Edward’s 80 physicians. The partnership extends beyond HMO patients, since the two providers will also collaborate on clinical initiatives and best practices.

“Working together will enable us to achieve higher quality and greater cost-effectiveness than we could accomplish on our own,” Edward CEO Pam Davis said in the release. “For instance, the physicians involved in this collaboration will collect and share specific quality performance measures for each physician — primary care and specialists. That will result in concrete improvement of that performance leading directly to better, more consistent patient care.”
