Mayo Clinic to shutter 2 home health facilities in Minnesota

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic will close two home health facilities in Red Wing, Minn., and Albert Lea, Minn., by June 30, according to a news release.

Officials said the health system will no longer provide home healthcare services in either area, but will continue to operate area hospice programs. The health system will work with affected patients and staff at both locations to ensure a smooth transition.

"As we work to build a system of healthcare across southeast Minnesota that provides affordable, sustainable care for area residents, we need to look beyond the walls of our Mayo Clinic facilities and include the many resources located in our communities," said David Agerter, MD, regional vice president of the Mayo Clinic, in a news release. "Mayo Clinic Health System's core business, the way that we bring the best value to our patients, is to deliver inpatient and outpatient care. We recognize that there are high-quality community agencies who are better positioned to offer other services, such as home healthcare, because that is their main focus."
