South Shore and Wellforce entered into an initial agreement to pursue a partnership and expect to file their plans with Massachusetts regulators if a deal is reached, according to The Globe.
Wellforce hospital system is the parent company of Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital and MelroseWakefield Hospital in Melrose, Mass.
“In the midst of an increasingly complex and competitive healthcare environment, South Shore Health periodically reviews opportunities in the market so that we can meet the current and future needs of the community we serve,” South Shore Health board chairman Ken Kirkland told The Globe.
Boston-based Partners HealthCare abandoned a deal to acquire South Shore in 2015.
