Marshfield Clinic Health System joining AboutHealth: 3 things to know

Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System is joining AboutHealth, the statewide healthcare organization that includes Wausau-based Aspirus, Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care, Green Bay-based Bellin Health, La Crosse-based Gundersen Health System, Waukesha-based ProHealth Care, Appleton-based ThedaCare and Madison-based UW Health.

Here are three things to know about the agreement.

1. MCHS is joining the most comprehensive network of healthcare providers in Wisconsin, AboutHealth said. Collectively, the system provides access to care for about 94 percent of the state's population and serves patients in neighboring states of Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota.

2. The system was developed to enhance clinical quality, increase efficiency and improve customer experiences through shared practices.

3. In a statement, Jeff Thompson, MD, chair of the AboutHealth Board of Directors and CEO of Gundersen Health System, said with MCHS, AboutHealth will have a broader reach across Wisconsin, "allowing all of us to increase quality and lower cost more quickly."
