Just six months ago, the organizations signed a non-binding letter of intent to buy or build a co-owned hospital in Eau Claire and to give Marshfield Clinic minority interest in Riverview Hospital, an Aspirus hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

The two parties said they scrapped the deal to focus internally, according to the report.

With a proposed $175 million hospital in Marshfield and initiatives to open post-surgery recovery centers, Marshfield Clinic does have a full plate right now, though its COO Dan Ramsey told the Marshfield News Herald it is still interested in the Eau Claire market.

Andy Napgezek, Aspirus’ director of communications, told the paper Aspirus would not open an Eau Claire hospital solo. He also cited changes in the industry and local market as reasons for abandoning the deal, according to the report.
